I had hornwort in all my tanks, but have been having problems with it in 2 of them...
The hornwort in my 20 gallon is turning white/grey at the bottom, it seems like its covered in dust. Its still alive, and the pieces that are nearer the top of the plant are doing fine. This tank has a flourecent hood, one long 18w tube, dont know details, its the one that came with the hood. I am planning to get a new bulb in this one soon. There are other plants in here (anacharis, onion plant, sword plant, 2 other ones that Ive forgotten the name of) that are doing fine.
THe ones in the little 5 gallon all died overnight (anacharis too) after a water change. 1 mini spiral flourecent in here.
The h. in my 10 is doing great, bright green, grows ALOT. 2 mini spiral flourecents.
Anyone know whats up with my hornwort???

sounds like the bottoms arnt getting enough light in those tanks. just spread them apart more so they can get more light.

what are some good floating plants?

Eactly what I was going to say. You may need to trim the base of the plants so that the greyish stuff at the bottom of hornwort doesn't start to decay. Also, might make sure it isn't shedding because that can really clog up power filters in a hurry.

Lots of times it depends on the tank inhabitants as well as the other plants in the setup. You want to make sure you don't have something that is blocking light from another high light demand plant.

There are some fish that enjoy dimly lit settings. So, I can't really give you a great answer. But, there probably is someone on here that keeps lots of floating plants that might could advise you if you tell them about your tank.
