Hornwort?

I just got a HUGE amount of hornwort in the mail. How do I plant it? Right now it is just floating around, shedding at the top of my tank.:help:

hornwort is a floating plant, you don't "plant" it. The most you might do is tie it to a rock with fishing line ot thread to keep it stationary. Most just let it float around.

Hornwort is a type plant that can get its carbon by breaking down the calcium carbonate in the water or by absorbing CO2 from the water. Medium light is ideal, i.e. 2~3 watts a gallon.

NOTE: Hornwort will shed all its leaves if you dose with an excess of Florish Excel. Some have luck at regular levels, others no luck at all.

I finally got rid of mine because I got tired of having to clean it off the strainer for the filter intake.

You can actually plant hornwort if you want, but most people think of it as a floating plant and that's how they use it. Doesn't really matter how it's planted. Give it enough light, and it will become a weed. And as already said, Hornwort, and some other plants 'melt' when dosed with Flourish Excel.

I have tried tying mine to driftwood as tightly as I can without breaking the stems, but it will inevitably shimmy its way out from under the thread and float back to the top. It's not really thriving in my setup, which is a 20g high with over 2.5 wpg and no ferts/co2, so I may just throw it out! All my other plants in that tank are doing nicely minus the hornwort.:headshake2:

I have also found that it does better in cooler water. I put some in with my betta and it almost shed bald. I have some in a cooler tank with some shrimp and it has never shed the first little needle
