So last night I turned off the lights in my bedroom where my 45 gallon aquarium sits. I can usually walk around my bedroom blind and get around. For some reason, I bumped into the tank and caused some splashing. I just wanted to hear some peoples stories of similar situations. Did you completely knock over the tank and have the biggest mess of your life? Or maybe a cat or dog knocked over a aquarium. Post it here, I want to here peoples stories.
 
I can help with this one. I had an unbalanced ten gallon with an HOB filter on the edge of a bookcase against a wall. The next morning, I noticed that the water level was down considerably (like 2/3.) Seems that the unbalanced HOB had dumped water down the wall of my office all night, going through the drywall and pooling beautifully on the kitchen island direcly underneath the tank-- one floor down. Thank goodness the pump rate wasn't higher and the tank wasn't bigger.

Fish in tank- saved. Homeowner repair bill- $200 with labor. Learning to use internal filters on unlevel tanks--PRICELESS!
 
Was awakened in the middle of the night by a water alarm I have placed under every tank. Rock had shifted in the 110G SW reef tank and blown out the rear glass. IT was a mad panic to get all of the fish, rock, inverts, you name it into a 55G spare tank I had sitting around. Also got a nice little electrical shock from the water cascading over the electrical socket.
 
Taking the glass top off my old old old tank to wake up and find one of my little oscars flapping on the floor. He was hence labeled a jumper and that glass never came off again.
 
Ha I did something like this. My back was out, and I had my pops filling up my 29 high, it was also on a tall stand so I had to lift the 5g bucket over my head, and couldn't do it that day. So Any how it was an eclipse hood. I took out 15g, and asked my day to fill it back up. He didn't know the bucket was a 5g or something, and thought you had to fill up to the top (The back hood is about 3in) Well he ended up pouring 5g of water all over the tank, came out the sides,, soaked the floors, walls and electrical. I wanted to kill him, but oh well it was kinda funny.



Oh, I also had cats. One day I came home and my daughter ran through the house ahead of my husband and I, and slipped. what the heck she fall on? Ran up to her only to discover the entire house was flooded. The cat had gotten on top of the tank and knocked a hose off and flooded the house. About 6 gallons of water warped the floors in my living room, dinning room, and soaked the rugs and couches. Took about 6 hours to clean up...
 
I started to do a water change on my 125 gal discus tank... Its simple, the pipe from the FX5 filter has a valve that diverts the water into the house drain.
I opened the valve, and forgot about it.

drained about 80% of the water out of the tank before I realized it.
there was about 6 inches of water left in the tank.

another 5 imnutes and there would have only been a couple inches before the pump lost its prime.

Thank goodness you finally gave in and are doing it the correct way....
 
I got a call at work one night. Dad telling me the 75 is busted. I ran out of work and come home to my living room floor flooded. The tank is right next to the entertainment system and when he was opening a drawer looking for a DVD, he bumped the eheim and the hose that goes into the filter came off. Ended up draining about 60 gallons of water all over my floor before the prime was lost. Had to move EVERYTHING out of their to pull up the carpet.
