My mom has had bamboo tied in a ring for a few monthes now. After I told her they were being sold as aquarium pants along with onions. my mom is thinking about just throwing it in the tank would this be harmful if fertilizers were used on it when it was bought???
For that matter the bamboo often sold as bamboo or "lucky bamboo", frequently tied as described by fish breeder isn't really bamboo. It's usually dracenia species, which again won't survive submerged.
Aquatic onions are Crinums and Zephantyes (sp?). The Lucky Bamboo is a Dracena (as already stated), which will survive with the stem but not the foliage submerged.
hey thanks for asking. i've been busy lately with the work relocation among other things. had to tear down my office vase tank which ran happily for over 3 years; it's settling just fine in the new building now. the same bamboo that was only a foot long is now over 3 ft., it's holding out but not exactly fast growth under facility lights.
just recently started a cichlid tank and that's where the last bit of my attention is right now. hope all is well!
