Does anyone have any experience keeping skinny pigs (AKA house hippos)? I saw them for the first time today and thought that they are so ugly their cute. Now I'm considering getting one to add to the zoo.

I don't have any experience but I have seen two of them. A girl who was working at an Animal Jungle had two that she took with her to work.

They are neat looking. Almost totally hairless except for fluffy ears and fur on the bridge of their nose.

But that is the only time I have ever seen any.

are you two serious? I have no idea what a house hippo is... I feel like this is some sort of joke I'm not getting b/c it is past my bedtime!!!

No Joke HOLLY... I didn't know they really exisisted until today. And they are so adorable. I'll I ever knew was that crazy commercial, But they are even better in real life. No this is not a dream... You may be tired but I am afraid this is reality.

Is house hippo a hairless guenia pig? Can u post a picture?

Sorry BooHoo! What a nice video!! You have to see this! A Canadian miniature hippo! :D

Listen carefully to the end of the video!
That will help those that believe the "media" is telling the truth on "current events"......

I coulda sworn Mike Moore took some credit for this video!

125gJoe, I couldn'y bring up the link, but it is probibly the commercial I see all the time. I know that they look like lab experiments...but I actually saw them at Pets Unlimited today. And yes they are kinda cute. Yes they are just a hairless guinea pigs..I think. :idea2:

My 5 year old actually thinks there are house hippos because of that commercial! Of course, there are no info pop-ups in the broadcast version. The message is clearer for my 7yo. I still have to remind them that what they hear and see in commercials isn't always true.

mishi8, I'm not sure how many years ago where it was 'stated' that you can no longer believe what is on your TV or computer since video and editing has become that "good."

I think it was around 8 years or so ago.... Help me on this one video experts! :D

It is true though. Now we live in a time where video can trick the human eye.

(ok, ..so even recent ufo sightings can't be dimissed.. I'm waiting for the debunkers to lash out about the Unknown.. )

It takes very expensive cameras (video) to make the "unreal" -- "look real"...
