Housing Skirt Tetras

Welp... shoot. Alright, then. Thanks for the help!

Alright, I know that this is an old thread, but I just thought I'd follow up on what was going on:

I ended up getting a 20g tank which now needs to be cycled. Hopefully, after being seeded with media from the 10g, that won't take too long. With that said, if you have any advice on stocking (what kinds and how many of each, perhaps?), that would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

Oh, and I'd like to keep something else in there to help with cleanup, if it's not going to cause any problems. Would it be at all possible to stock a few pygmy cories, or do you think there might be issues with fin-nipping?

What 20g did you get? A 20 gal long? 20g standard? Or a 20g extra high? Tank foot print makes a difference on stocking, not just water quantity. If youre not sure, put the tank dimensions into a tank calculator to find out.

You should never buy fish to be a clean up crew. Buy fish because you want to keep them. I purchased my cories just because I love them. I have specific foods I feed them. Same with my pleco.

It's a 20g standard.

I guess "cleanup crew" kind of carries an inhumane connotation to it. Of course, I love all fish (all animals, really), but I particularly like these little guys, which is why I asked about these specific fish. I've been wanting to keep a few for a while, but I figured this tank would be a good opportunity. Believe me, not a single pet in my home goes without care. I'm glad you care so much for your fish!

Pygmy cories sound like a great option then!

I just hate seeing people buy fish thinking they will just clean up and they dont need to care for them at all. Youre talking to someone who has 7 different types of food for fish and shrimp! :D

A shoal of 5 would be lovely, but I wouldnt put any other bottom dwellers in. Maybe a few mystery snails but thats it.

So maybe them and then your glo tetras? Id probably go 5-6 of them.

Hope that answers your question, look forward to seeing updates :)

All right! I'm glad to hear it! I've been waiting forever to get a few black/white/glo skirts in a tank together for my one glow tetra. Now that I know I can keep these little guys too, I think the tank will come together nicely.

Thanks!
