How are my dwarf puffers growing?

Happy Monday!

I got some dwarf puffers ~2 weeks ago and they refuse to eat. I have fed them all the goodies. Even blood worms with garlic and tiny snails.

What they WILL eat is random objects in my aquarium. I constantly see them pecking at my sponge filter and driftwood even though there is no food on either. I thought I'd be tricky so I put some blood worms on the sponge filter but they won't eat those. They just eat what appears to be nothing.

Yet, they are growing and pooping. What on earth are they eating? Should I be worried? How do I get them to eat?

My little girl is doing exactly the same thing!
I bought two tanks and a mountain of equipment from a generous person who was leaving the hobby. She told me she had lost three dwarf puffers but still had a rubber nose pleco that I agreed to adopt. As it turned out she still had one puffer alive that had been hiding for over a month! The tank was full of MTS, so I assume that’s what she was living on.
The young lady discovered the puffer while tearing down the tank before I arrived. Needless to say, I still have her and she is doing great. I watch her every day and she only pecks around on invisible particles on the plants. I have no clue what she is eating. It she is very chubby.
I am only to assume that she is pecking at either baby MTS or their eggs, but darned if I can see them!
