How bad is an HOB filter?

Yeah, I tried using HOB's on my 75 and it wasn't good. Hoped I would be able to get away with it on a 20 gallon long, but it doesn't look like it is going to be the case because just with the HOB off for an hour, the ph got to the right level and the controller shut it off. I'm already trying to figure out where I'm going to cut the hole in the counter top and which cabinet underneath I am going to house the Fluval 405 in. I'm also thinking about getting another 405 for the 10 gallon and running it at 1/2 capacity.

is your water to the top? that helps.

otherwise that sucks. i'm not a big fan of having to resurface a counter top.

good luck

i run a canister and an hob on both these tanks. no co2 tho

Yeah, the water was already at the top. I cut the filter off last night and the ph dropped pretty quickly.

The holes have already been cut in the counter top and the Fluval 405 has been installed. I actually just finished it. I'm doing a little more house keeping on the tanks and will probably do a water change on the 10 gallon later tonight.

As far as the counter top is concerned, it will probably cost me $50 to replace it when we move, if it is even an issue for the buyers. These tanks are in the garage, and the buyers might want to take the cabinets and counter tops out anyway so they can fit 2 cars in the garage instead of just one. Time will tell and $50 isn't that big of a deal if I have to fix it.
