How best to use Bio-Spira?

hey just curious, how did you get such high ammonia with just 6 zebra danio and in a 55 gallon tank within 1 night? did the tank already contain high level of ammonia to begin with, before you added the zebra danioos?

the tank was stuck at 4 ppm ammonia for about 3 weeks on its own....no fish...nothing

figured out it was debris in the tank from lace rock...did water chagnes to get rid of debris...and bring ammonia down

added the zebras...and bio spira

thats it

If you get Bio Spira, change the water until you get it as low as you can. Do 50% water changes 12 hours apart, then add the Bio Spira. Do not change the water for 48 hours again.

:X

Thanks for the advice. As I mentioned previously (or maybe another thread?) the new tank is at the 'rents place, so it's hard to keep an eye on it 24/7. I got the new packet of 'spira tonight but the roads turned into 90% black ice and I decided not to make another trip out.

Tomorrow I will do a big water change and add the bio-spira again. ;|

As for the marineland dude, I did not get a name. He didn't really sound like he knew what he was talkin about so I kept it brief. Got some equally mediocre advice at the LFS and decided my best shot is to just dose the tank w/spira again and hope for the best.

I'll post again tomorrow night after I add the second round.

Thanks everyone. ;)
