yup that's an otto. they stay small, but are schooling fish. i love them and have no problems with mine (other members say they are a pain). i have just made sure that there are a lot of plants and hidey holes for mine. they also like drift wood.

i do have a cae, the only thing i could put him with that was meaner than him was my cichlid. and cae do get big (mine is over 6 inches). but he is an algae eating machine and he kills the pond snails that snuck into the tank.

what you have there isn't a chinese or siamese algae eater, that's an otto... which gets along with each of those fish... what size tank do you have them in?

the picture you posted is of an otocinclus, which are very peaceful and only get about 1.5-2" long. they should be kept in groups no smaller than 3, preferably more though, and they are great at eating algae, and wont touch your plants.

chinese algae eaters get large, about 6" and VERY agressive when they get bigger. they also stop eating algae and turn to more meaty diets.

siamese algae eaters stay smaller than cinese, and are much more peaceful and good algae eaters.

Nothing beats an algae brush and elbow grease. Most fish aren't going to do a spotless job on algae cleaning and you have to feed them a supplement. Also, any benefits of their algae cleaning is lost when they crap it all out again. : In other words, don't get a plec just to clean algae off your glass.
