How big is Nano?

That's brilliant Niko, thanks!

If the Mrs and I go ahead with our plan of making LR Agrigate shapes (as shown on GARF) would we be able to reduce the amount of LIVE ROCK we would have to buy by any significant amount (ie we make 2/3rds of the reef out of LR Aggrogate and only 1/3rd of actual farmed LIVE ROCK)?

I would always treat the diy rock in the same as dead rock. When adding this to the tank, i would go with a percentage of 60% live rock, 40% dead/base/diy rock..Just an opinion..

Cool, the plan is currently to get some live sand, make our own agonite rock, set the tank up with the rock and the sand then add bought live rock as and when we can afford it.

At the current money flow rate I think the tank will be running for a few months before we are even ready to add fish so it'll be a very long cycle and should give the agonite rock plenty of time to become live :D

I don't think it matters what country you're in, one thing holds true:

Reefing is spendy. ;)

I'll bet I've got $3k into my 29g tank, and it's just a tank, nothing really special.

Good luck!

If I may be so bold: I wouldn't even consider adding water to the tank before you purchase a ro/di unit. It's just not worth the hassle...ask me how I know. ;)
