How can I be to serious?

Yeah, I've had the lines ''Your fish get more attention than I do'' from my lass. However, my 1.5 yr old lad loves feeding the fish and the water changes (he even tried to get in the tank once  !) and she sees we're both happy and interested and is now coming round showing interest in potential new fish. I even found a wind up fish toy which she put in the tank, but my male gourami attacked it vigorously - was meant to be a little suprise for me, but she had to take it out before I saw it in there!

She's glad I didn't get any reptiles or arachnids though.

Edit: What's an F8? Eighth generation?

Well, I may only have two bettas, but my boyfriend used to be really against my fish anyway. Back when I got my first betta, he complained that I spent too much time cleaning the tank... and that I worried way too much about it. He tried to get me to return the betta, but of course I did not. :) And the fish flared at my boyfriend everytime he came in the room. They did not get along at all!

He slowly got used to him though. And I just caught him the other day talking to my female betta in a baby-talk voice, saying "How's the little fishlet today??" So I think he's accepted the fish hobby, finally. :)

He wouldn't let me get a 10 gallon tank though. Bah, I'll just have to do it when he's not watching.

I took a beating from my wife about the fish tank. She was not happy when I upgraded the 10 gal to a 60 gal. She thought I had lost it, but she does love to look at it. When you go to get a bigger tank take a look for used tanks on craigslist and the local papers. You can save a lot of money that way.

Glad to hear your b/f came around. And it's never 'only' two bettas. It's not the size of tanks or number of fish, it's how much your care about them. I'd say you're well on your way to becoming a fish person.

It's the opposite for me. Like I said, my boyfriend got me two of my tanks and I'm sure he's regretting it now (seeing as how much time I spend on this forum). At least he hasn't accused me of having secret fishy boyfriends online! ;)

My betta used to flare at my guy, too. I think they recognize us as their "mates". He even bit him hard on the finger when he offered to feed him. Isn't that cute?

Definitely check the papers. I had to stop looking because I was too tempted to buy a large tank and just keep it in a closet until I could actually use it.

That is adorable! People who don't have bettas never believe me when I try to describe their great personalities, but that is a prime example.

Hm, I wish my boyfriend would buy me a tank! But then again, I have a space problem too, so maybe he's doing the right thing by not letting me get a larger one. :)

glad i dunt hav a wife
