How can I hook up one Fluval 304 to two 20 gallon tanks?

Never had a intake clog before.

It's not just about clogging, it's about resistance. I edited this in to my previous post, but

you have 4 lines, if any one line starts to encounter resistance relative to the other 3 lines, you'll have an overflow problem.

It's been discussed in detail. I found the thread:

http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=212364

Read the entire thing if you want to understand all of the problems. CW thought it was possible and the thread heavily discussed all the issues.

You can do it if you want, but it's a bad idea and it will cause you problems.

It's never been done as far as I know, at the end of that thread he shows how it was accomplished but in my world hooking up a can to a sump does not mean the same as running two tanks off of one canister. The only way I see it working is if you stack your tanks and have the water flow down to the bottom tank then out to the can BUT you would still have a problem if you get a clog, you are better off with two cans, make SINCE???

Just Prince, u seem really dead-set on doing this. Please, if thats what u want to do, go ahead. Wont be our floors that are ruined.

keep a wet dry vacum handy because your going to be cleaning up 20 gallons of water when this fails.

To OP,

Do NOT do it.

You should be able to jump a hose from one tank over the rim to the other. If you think about it . It should work . You would have to make sure the hose had no air and was full of water and went like 6 inches beneath the water on each tank. Then if one tank went low the syphon effect should cause water to flow from the higher water level tank untill they equalize. I'm gonna do a home experiment with some hose and two cups of water.

Yes! It works like a charm. As long as the tanks are level with each other and you have no holes in the hose or PVC then te higher water level will allways syphon to the lower untill equal . If you are worried about rate of flow then you just need to have larger diameter hose or PVC. Again I have to stress that this will not work if the line empties. But if there are no leaks at all then that should never happen. If you don't believe then do the experiment your self.

With the jumper you could split the suction and discharge Of your fluval and never have to worry. Or have two suctions and two dishcarges. If one has more rate then the jumper would make up the difference.
