I'm just curious as to how far some people have to go to get their fish? We have a Wal-mart in town but I never buy fish there unless it's in a cup and even that is rare for me. So I actually have to drive for about 40+ minutes depending on which store I go to in the town north of us. It's about an hour for one of the nicest ones but they carry more SW than FW.

One of the stores always tells me to get the fish in the tank within an hour. I've never had a problem but it still scares me some and I feel like I'm in such a rush!

My LFS is only about 15 minutes away :D. I have another one about 25 minutes away that I go to sometimes. You don't want the fish in the bad too long, but you can request a larger bag and as long as you keep the temp constant it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I'm pretty fortunate -- there are 7 quality places within 20 minutes of my place and a few more near my work.....woot.

my fave LFS is about 10 mins away, and theres a petsmart on the way there if i REALLY need something

Have a petco less than 5 and a petsmart about 15 but the closest privately owned is about 45 minutes away. :(

Even my Pecto and Petsmarts are 45 min away. :( Normally when I go shopping I try to hit at least 2-3 shops during the day. Buying fish always makes that place the last stop then homeward bound.

Edit: Once years ago I did buy a snail and then ate at a stir fry bar before heading home. Brought the little guy in with me, lol.

I'm surrounded by PetCo, PetSmart, PetGood and Petland. My Pet store, which is my favorite, is located abotu 15 minutes away (closer than all of the big chains). My LFS (dedicated fish store) is about 30 minutes away. I don't go there unless I want something really bad because of their prices.

The pet store near me is awesome because their stock unpredictable.

I have about 5 of them within 7 miles of me.
