I'm reading toher posts about how hermit crabs are attacking fish. How are the blue legged ones? Thanks! Are they safe?

I don't think you have going to have a problem with hermits unless the fish is unhealthy, that is, laying on the substrate not moving. My hermits have never attacked a healthy fish. I have a 30g 4 blue legs, 1 electric blue, 4 black and white ones (don't know the name), and one redleg.

Generally speaking, hermits are not an issue and will only go after the dead or dieing. in fact they are a valuable part of the cleanup crew and will be a huge, significant additon to your tank. But be aware that the big ones can become an issue, although it is hard to predict. Blue legs are fine, but tend to have a 50/50 survival rate even in the best of conditions.

Seeing as you only have a 10 gallon tank, I wouldn't invest in any that are too large - small tanks require small inhabitants ;) ... when they start to get big you can always seek a trade-in with your LFS.

But PLEASE don't add anything else to your tank until it has completed its cycle!!

A blue legged hermit crab is tiny and they don't get too big. Besides, how much of a fish could a single hermit do to a fish? But if you have a team of hermits, (I've heard) when a fish dies you may not see the body.
