I moved about five miles a couple of years ago. I did it without an ammonia spike.
I borrowed some boxes from my LFS and didn't add an air stone. Put the fish in there.
I kept some water in the old tank to keep the gravel wet.
Kept another container with some of my old water. Kept my filter and bio wheels wet.
Vacced out the rest. Moved it all, filled up the tank. Added the fish.
My pictus and pleco (RIP) at the time were stubborn, so they rode in the tank. :grinyes:
No deaths. No problem.
