I bought this filter some time ago and tried to use it but didnt really get the idea. I hooked it up to an air pump but i dont think it really worked. Can someone give any input on what i need to make it work that will run quiet like my eheim? i no longer have the pump so im forced to buy something.

Sponge Filters aren't the best when it comes to being quiet. The air pump is the main source of the noise. But pretty much all you do is attach the air line in the tube. As the air bubbles go up, it cause some suction. That's pretty much it.

You could put a power head on it.

Something like these... http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4585+4609&pcatid=4609

It would take some DIY'ing to deal with the brackets to hold it. Sense it wouldn't be right next to the glass.

Although you could probably cut the lift tube off right at the top of the sponge. So the PH sits right on top of the sponge?

Or

L bow some pvc towards the glass?

Something like this...
