Sometime after the chasing and fin shimmying their is a brief point in time where the male will swim beside or under the female and transfer sperm to her body via the elongated anal fin and it happens fast so most of the time you don't actually see the mating.

Also most livebearers can store sperm for several months even if no males are present so you can actually bring them home already pregnant..

It just looks like the male is chasing the female, his fin bends forward and looks like he just rubs up against her belly, and the deed is done. Blink and you'll miss it.
