well i soaked a cucumber in garlic and he came over to it about 2 hours later got on it for about a minute then got off.i don't know if he likes cucumber i will try some lettuce later.

Keep trying it- once they've spotted it they should eventually learn to eat it. With mine (which will literally queue up for courgette/cucumber as I'm putting it in now) the first sign that they would eventually eat it was investigating it and giving a half-hearted chew/scrape, then ignoring it again, but a few months later they do relish it, honestly...

slice several pieces of cucumber and use fish weight such as the one that comes on the base of the plants to weigh down in the tank, the BN plec (Bristle Nose) will come over and eat it, you will prob see he will push other fish away to eat as much as he can
