how do you filter your planted tank?

I use 3 magnun 350 s on my 125 and 2 on my 120 . Not for biological , just to polish and clean the water of lose debri.
Nothin like crystal clear water. I run diatom sand with the micron filter ,one on the 120 and two on the 125. The other magnums have the media baskets packed with right size sleeves inside only , not on the outside.

Here's a shot of the 125.

That's a rockin' tank. ;)

I use a "Rena SmartFilter 55" (250GPH) on my 10g. It's a HOB with canister like qualities. It's return covers a very wide area so the surface movement is hardly noticeable (especially on the lowest setting). Cleaning it is quick and easy, too. It's just a great filter for small planted tanks.

I use an emperor 280 for a 55g to collect loose debris.. the plants does the rest:)

Personally I would not go the natural route. I use a Rena XP3 on my 55g.

As a light source on a 4' tank, cant beat the Walmart (or home Depot, Lowes, etc.) shop lights with GE 6800k bulbs.
