I inherited a 55g tank with most of the trimmings. As you can imagine most of the tank was covered in calcium residue. I got it off the tank by scraping with a blade but its also covering most of the AquaClear filter.

How do you get this stuff off? I've tried hot water, scrubbing, and even hitting it with a razor blade. While they work its HARD WORK.

Any easier way?

Keep in mind this stuff has been caked on for a very long time.

Try vinegar.

vinegar is a very weak acid (acetic acid) .. if it doesn't work, try muriatic acid which is probably available at a hardware store.

alright guys will try. thanks.
