I don't know if it's the method I use them or the brand I buy, but, after about 3-4 weeks of buying flake food, the flakes become so small, that my fish can't eat enough because all the flakes are too small to eat efficiently.

How do you keep your flakes big and not becoming fry food? I take a big pinch out of the bottle and feed that to my fish twice a day. The brand is Aqueon Goldfish Flakes

It happens to the best of us, all I can say is that maybe you want to try to move it around as little as possible - I have noticed less of this in Omega One products, because the natural protein bonds the flakes together, not the added starch.

I buy flake in big tubs, so this is a real problem for me. Decanting it into several tubs can help a bit, but not much to be honest.

Until now, I really have not thought that this can be a problem.

If the fish are not spitting them out and all the food is gone quickly, then does the size of the flakes matter?

All my fish are on flake, the same stuff the place where I bought my fish from feeds them. I also put some sinking pellets for the plecos and once in a while an end of a raw cucumber. I have never thought that the size of the flake could be an issue.

Aqueon are like the smallest flakes to begin with.. i would try another brand.. Get Ocean Nutrition those things are beasts!! like 3 inches across..
