How do you keep the cat off the tank?!

Tin Foil

They hate to walk on it , just lay it across the top
They also make a thing called a scat mat

We tried tinfoil under our Christmas tree one year. My calico (used to climb the tree every day), curled up and slept on the tinfoil. it apparently did not bother her. Those scat mats are $$$. We tried a computer chair mat (the kind with the spikes on the bottom) upside down on the counters - they still jumped up and walked around on it - it was painful for me to step on them (I tested it), but they didn't mind at all. Stupid things.

Give me dogs any day. Cats are aggravating!!!

Thanks. I think I'll try the tinfoil first. That sounds like the easiest one. I had done the sticky tape loops with my other cat before we got this one, and put them on the kitchen windowsill. I didn't want her walking on the kitchen counter (yuck!). It worked except that she couldn't get the tape off her feet and kept running and freaking out until we could corner her and take them off.

I'll have to take a careful approach with this cat because he's so dumb and skittish. It's tempting to take the hood off, but I would worry for the fish. I don't want a claw going through my big pleco. Both my cats normally sit on the arm of the couch and look at the fish, but sometimes, I guess that's not enough for him.

So as an example of how dumb (and uncoordinated) this cat is, we had to put a cone on him for a skin infection he had recently. He stayed in one spot all day, pee'd himself and stayed there. :screwy: Real bright spark. Here's the only photo I could get of him with the cone on. He was hiding in the basement. After his accident, we took it off and gave him a bath. In the pic, one eye is reflecting red from the flash. The other eye usually reflects yellow in pictures, but for some reason it wasn't this time.

If you really hate the fact he is jumping on your tank, go and buy a nerf gun and shoot him with it every time he does it in front of you. It won't hurt him (too much), but maybe it will teach him a lesson.

I use this technique against my dog. (She tries the same stupid thing!)

Also the left eye of your cat looks like the eye of a terminator. LOL!

My two cats sleep on my 55, up against the shop light all the time. It's more annoying to me than anything else. I gave up yelling at them...

Mine hops on my tanks to use them as personal water fountains....she completely ignores any fish action and I honestly believe she thinks they were all placed around the house for her. :irked:

I've tried the squirt gun, but that only makes her hop off and split, practically dropping the hood into the tank..I've tried a tin can filled with pennies with the same result. Silly kitties.....

I guess I'll count my blessings, my cat only likes to watch the fish, and not climb on the hood, although he does like hopping up to the top of my entertainment center

Water pistol

Cats hate it.

Give it a squirt each time it jumps up there and it will get the idea.

Mine have begun bracing themeselves for impact. Everytime they see me point the spray bottle at them, they tense up and squint like, "alright, I can take it, just do it."

Let me know when you figure it out.
