I lost my bubble tip to a powerhead about a week ago and I think that the toxins have gotten to my Torch Coral. A did a water change after the Bubble Tip died but I noticed a few things just were not right with my Torch and another unknown coral.
I'm in the process of a much bigger water change and have removed my Torch temporarily to a bag with new saltwater and am floating it with some DT's.Until I figure out what to do. It has withdrawn completely into the calicium shell/skeleton. I am worried that if i put it back in the tank it will die if it isn't dead already and release more toxins. I don't see movement at all in the tentacles and it has been this way for about 36 hrs. And my hospital tank filter is still cycling.
Any ideas what I can do with the torch or how long it can float in a bag. How do you know when they are dead and not just unhappy?

75 gallon
ammonia, nitrite 0
nitrate around 5 ppm
phosphate 5 ppm I have some phosguard in now
ph 8.3
salinity 1.023
78 degrees

If it has any flesh left on it, I'd get it into your hospital tank; just do lots of water changes if it's not completely cycled yet. Don't touch or move it, give it medium flow and good light. Even teeny bits of tissue can regrow, corals are amazingly resiliant given good conditions. If it starts to expand again (could take a few days to a week) you can try feeding it a little mysis to help it recover. Good luck :)
