you can use fish food in the water as an ammonia source. sounds like you have been doing that, right?
you don't need to put it in the filter.
liquid ammonia is a lot easier to work with.
do you have test kits to measure the ammonia ,nitrite and nitrate levels?

no i do not have a test kit, i go to the LFS and test the water 2-3 times a week, (they don't care for me so much)
I am saving up for the API master test kit, but I was wondering if I am using the kordon novaqua water conditioner, will that affect the accuracy of the API liquid tests???
