How do you start your siphon?

And yes, putting your lips on a tube and sucking water is akin to mouthing a pha!!us and sucking. . . . whatever.

There are certain worms and creatures that can do some serious harm to you if you swallow them...but I doubt they are found in an average aquarium.

And all of this sexual imagery for a siphon hose? I'll stick with my heterosexual male's siphon bulb I suppose. ;) I like squeezing things rather than putting my mouth around them and sucking for liquids...hehehaha

I just submerge my gravel vac and hose so that the entire hose fills with water. Then I put my thumb over the end of the hose, remove hose from the tank, position it in my bucket and remove my thumb...takes about 10 seconds.

Agreed. Never heard of a bulb or anything like that, and it took me a few hours to figure this out. *lol* But once I did, it's been a great process ever since. (Note: only works when tank is higher than destination, requires gravity.)

I use a baby nasal aspirator. I can just squeeze it, stick it in the end of the tube where the bucket is, and let it do the sucking for me.

You can tell that siphoning is a lost art; once you get a mouthful of gasoline, you learn not to suck too hard....

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Been there! Done that! Hope to never do it again!:laugh:

I just suck untill the water is on its way down. But every once and a-while I taste some water. The salt water is the worst.

I have a siphon, it has a long tube that you run up and down in the water and the suction starts the water going into the tube which is aimed at a bucket to catch the water and waste of course

For water changes I use the Lee's gravel vac... turn on the faucet and you're done.

For gravel cleaning, the 25 footer does give great pull, so I use a fat hose old-school siphon with the shake-to-start design...

Putting your mouth on aquarium equipment is gross.
