How do YOU trim/prune your Anacharis??

Obviously my method isn't working very well.

This is what I do:

Trim the top of the overgrown stem with scissors and plant the top half that I trimmed somewhere else... and leave the bottom half planted where it is. BUT - The bottom half doesn't grow...the original stem turns a little brownish but it grows extra stems out the side( 3 or 4 within a few days). And the top half.. takes off like a bullet (which is awesome) But... what about the bottom half... It looks very strange with one short-ish stem (browish) with very healthy looking growths coming from it....

How do YOU do it? Or... is this just how Anacharis is....

Hmm, strange. I have never had a problem propagating anacharis. How intense is the light? Any ferts? Co2?

No ferts... No Co2 Lol Could be the problem, huh?

It's in 5g with 25 watt bulb. It grows incredibly fast, but just the bottom half of what I trimed, looks pitiful.

What kind of CHEAP but good fertilizer could I get?

maryab91,

Mine behaved exactly as yours does when I had them planted in the substrate. I finally gave up and just let them grow floating. They look nice this way and the entire plant stays a nice bright green.

I have pressurized C02 and 108 Watts T5 lighting over a 55G. I do EI dosing.

Oh wow. Glad 2 know I'm not the only one with the ... anacharis problem. Haha
Do you have any pictures of it floating that you could post?
I just might do that!

I think anacharis is one plant that tends to put the growth more in the tops that get more light.

mine did the same..
but you can simply cut the tops and replant them.
