Salt will obviously increase total dissolved solids and specific gravity, but will neither affect KH or GH. The KH reading of 5 degrees is too low to offer any buffer, and may explain the dropping pH. A clam shell or 2 (cohogue for instance) may aid in buffering but will not move KH quickly.
