I just bought a top fin 10 gallon "stater kit". It comes with a top fin 10 filter, a 100 watt heater, and a pump. I bought bio3 filter media with sponge in the cartridge. I'm going to do a fishless cycle. When cycle completes, here's what I thouht about getting
2 white clouds
2 zebra danios
2 fancy guppies
1 dwarf gourami
1 pygmy cory
How does this sound?

Crowded. Granted this is just my opinion.
White clouds like to school, so 2 won't be enough.
Danios (I do believe) like more room.
The guppies would be okay.
Unless the gourami picks on them.
Cory, I don't know.

How about 1 dwarf gourami, half a dozen white clouds and a few otos? That might be a good mix, IMO. You might be able to go with more, but I'm not sure. Someone else will be along to answer shortly, I'm sure.

Oh, yeah. Put in some live plants. Always a good idea!

cories like a school of 6 or more, and yes danios need more swimming space because they are HYPER!

I second the live plant idea. There are plenty of low light plants that do well without alot of extra work.

Would this work:
1 dwarf gourami
3 pygmy cories
3 fancy guppies (all male)
1 rummynose tetra

Tetras are schooling fish, need at least 6 for them to be happy. Cories are also schooling fish, 6 or more, but someone already posted that.

Re: first post -- White clouds are also coolwater fishes and prefer lower temperatures, so I wouldn't go with them at all.

Check the fish specs at http://www.liveaquaria.com to see if the ones you want are schooling fish or not.

With a 10 gallon you are best off going with either one school of fish (small tetras, small barbs) and maybe a couple otocinclus catfish. Or going with a couple small non-schoolers. With such a small tank, it is going to be difficult to really stock up a diverse community. Personally I like barbs (gold or cherry for such a small tank) you could get maybe 5 gold barbs and 2 cherries though that would be pushing the limit overcrowding wise. Cherry barbs are one of the few barbs that don't neccessarily school though they like company of their own kind.

Just went to liveaquaria.com. No mention of rummynose tetra needing to be in schools. I'm not doubting you, but, thought I would mention that.

the best setup would be 6 of one type of small, schooling fish; 6 pygmy cories; and 1 dwarf gourami
