How easy or hard is it to re-silicone a tank?

Every tank i've re-sealed i've used GE silicone RTV-108 (clear) or RTV-103 (black). that stuff is nearly bullet-proof, dries rather quickly, stinks but is the best i've found for permanent underwater glass-to-glass adhesion (even GE says so). Grainger carries this, that's where i get it.
As for re-sealing the aquarium, it's been my opinion that an inside seal (the bead inside the tank) is fairly easy - a weekend, some razor blades, alcohol, small scotch-brite pads and patience. But, to replace the seam between the panes, that takes a little more time/patience. For a 30, gauge if your time is worth the cost of the tank.

On my hex tank I stripped of all the interior silicone and resealed, and it held up pretty well. A regular rectangular tank would be a walk in the park.

Agreed. the tank I resealed was a flat-back hex, and it came out beautifully. However, had the tank had only four interior seals it would have been that much easier! You have to move pretty quickly on the siicone application and get your masking tape off before it skins over, so the hex makes it a little more challenging.

Yep, since this is an empty tank, then it will be easy. I have also heard that you should not try to take apart he glass, only cut out the visible silicone next to the seam.
Silicone I should be the one without the microban or mold resistent chemicals.

Andy, thank you so much. I really appreciate that info. guess they just want me to spend way more money on the same tsuff in a different package.

Thank you all for your help.

I reread the ad and unfortunately there was a deadline that I missed and the tank has most likely been thrown out by now:(.

But I have bookmarked this thread for later use.
