grand rapids MI,
I just bought about a doz small cherry shrimp about 1/4". I am new to this and wondering how long will it take to grow to adulthood, also will small tetras bother the baby shrimp i have a lot of java moss in my tank.
and should i give them a whole algae wafer .thank you for your imput

i received my cherry shrimp on 10/23 and they were about 0.5". On 11/12 I saw my first berried shrimp so they'll reach breeding size long before 6 months. If they come in at 0.25" tack on an additional, say, month? Can't give you an exact number because it depends on diet and temperature, too, mine were kept at high 70s

that was just my experience, i've read about people waiting for months and months without any results, but I think if you give them a clean tank and nothing in your water poisons them or something crazy, you'll get results within a few months :)

As for food, I have lots of Nutrafin Max flakes - can I feed that? I switched to NLS pellettes for other fishes so these are currently not used much. Lets say Nutrafin flakes and blanched spinach for cherry shrimps and ramshorn snails. Does this sound ok?

They grow extremely slow, so slow I think I'm going to try to breed something else..:headshake2:

I got Cherries about 3 months ago. I got one that was really tiny. I feed them food that I made that has plenty of plant material, fish foods, calcium, etc. Mine are growing fairly quick. The one I received that was really tiny has grown about twice his size now. It should be mature in another month or 2.

The tetra's will eat the baby shrimp if they can get to them. The only safe fish for the shrimp would be Oto's and I've heard Hillstream loaches. I keep oto's with mine. They have no problems with each other.
