how fast do cherry shrimp spawn?

i bought 10 or so a couple months back. i tossed them in my 120 gal never expecting to see them again. i counted 6 today. i think thats a lot. in a big tank with a lot of plants. being able to find 6.

how fast should the population grow?

I've read online that they are very hardy and breed very easily.
What do they eat, anyway? Algae? Hopefully not all of your lovely plants!!

even if they eat the plants they grow faster then they could ever eat.

I'd guess they breed alot, man, Bill (Beviking) is getting over a hundred people wanting to buy his Cherrys and he has more availible MONTHLY!!

They are fairly quick breeders. It takes about 1 month for them to reach reproduction age, another month for gestation, and then you should have at around 10-15 babies from one mother.

So you can imagine, as the cycle repeats itself you'll have exponential growth barring any predation.

I just purchased some juveniles from ebay. They seller said they would start producing in about 2 months.

thanks John. i guess ill keep waiting. wanting to seed the other tanks but catching a couple of cherry shrimp in a 120 gal might be the death of me.

A good trick is the bait and capture technique. Place an algae wafer in the corner and wait till they come out and feast. That's when you catch them.

Works even better if you use a small pop bottle. The hole is big enough to get the shrimp in there and keep most fish out. Good luck!
