how fast should a CO2 cylinder last?

i suggested windex because it is more readily available than soapy water mixture. also from the 4 bars that i have tended bar at, we have always used windex (or equivalent) on tanks to make sure they werent leaking.

i also used windex on my reg when i first set it up for my tank.

the co2 tank, usually being about 3 feet below the (usually closed) tank lid is far enough away (IMHO) to spray windex liberally all over the place.

yes, a minorly derailed thread. i am still a little surprised at how fast you are going through that tank.

only thing is that windex and really soapy water mixture have different consistencies/properties. Windex will not produce the same effect if sprayed on a leaky valve, thats as good as spraying plain water and hoping for a bubble. Plus soapy water is more available and cheaper to use (kitchen soap anyone?)

The rate of the tank emptying is still considered normal IMO especially if you look at the bubble rate/co2 tank size/aquarium size

I just got it replaced, quick and easy. I'm not so surprised about going through it in 4 months. When you consider a flow so fast I can't count the bubbles, keeping a 150 on the yellowish green side and running for 10-12 hours a day, seems reasonable I THINK. I was more suprised that it didn't go down at all and then BAM dropped all the way down in a week. Sounds like that's jsut the nature of the whole gas thing though.

you said you were down to 250 psi. so it wasnt completely empty. i was just curious if you could figure out exactly how much you used since may 1.

it was down to 250 PSI when I started the thread last night. this morning when I took it apart (2 ours ago) it was down to 100 PSI. Once it dropped, it started to REALLY DROP. I'm sure it would have been empty by tomorrow EOD, and airgas is only open M-F so better safe than sorry.
