How is CO2 collected?

I was wondering how C02 is collected? (for things like fire extinguishers, aquariums, etc)

Can it be taken directly from the air and "bottled"?

I'd assume it's by a large scale chemical reaction. Almost any metallic carbonate and acid will react to form CO2 and other chemicals. The CO2 wiki has a pretty good section on it.

It's produced as a by product from other chemical processing.

I think I remember hearing it is produced in large scale by the combustion of methane, then seperated by fractional distillation.

Seriously your exhaled breath is not pure CO2.

If exhaled breath was pure CO2 then re-breathers used for scuba diving wouldn't work which basically takes CO2 out and diverts leftover O2 to be inhaled again.
