Hi guys i have been thinking about this for weeks. I have a 38 gallon reef with about 50 pounds of cured rock...which has been set up for about a year and going to be upgrading to a 75 gallon tank. I am not sure on how to proceed i was thinking i could add some new live sand and seed it with my sand bed from the 38 gallon, then add all the rockfrom the 38 gallon.. there should not be any cycle right?? then i can just buy premium cured rock from the net which is shipped in water to finish off the tank..what do you guys think on how i should do this? by the way i ordered the 75 galllon all glass with built in overflows got tired of the overhang u tubes always worried about a flood..thanks for the help guys....derick

I think that should work fine...mix your salt and water in the new tank over night...get your sand bed about 2 inches deep (or more)in the new tank....with your existing rock that established it should pretty much "instant cycle" - I know my reef tank did when I added a lot of rock at the beginning - never spiked. Are there corals in the old tank? If so, you could make a temporary shelf out of egg crate lighting diffuser and leave the corals in the old tank until you are sure the new tank is cycled properly. It will take a little careful maneuvering, but it can be done.
