I'm still only in the first phase of cycling, but was wondering how much of a timeframe you have before you have to add fish once the tank is cycled. We'll be getting a betta once the tank is cycled, but because of hectic schedules, can really only get to the LFS on the weekends. So, if my ammonia, nitrites and nitrate numbers all look good on a Tuesday, say, is it OK to do a water change, let the tank continue as is, and then add a fish on Saturday? Or would I have to add more ammonia to the tank during the week until we can get the fish (and the ammonia drops back to 0)? How long can a cycled tank go before you have to add more ammonia? This is a 2.5 minibow, if that makes any difference. thanks!

i would add ammonia till thursday morning, then stop and let it sit for most of thursday, friday, and add the fish saturday morning.

Add one drop of ammonia every day til you are ready to get fish. Then before you do, perform a big wc, get the tank temp right and go get the fish. The bacteria need food and O2 or they die off.
