how long between new fish?

I know you are supposed to wait a few weeks in between the purchases of new fish. I know this is to allow the tank to adjust to the bioload and as a preventative attempt to curb aggression or avoid uneccessary exposure to sickness. I am in no way trying to speed up this process, i'm just curious about it.

I got a Firefish 5 days ago. I'm going to wait probably about 3-4 weeks before I get another fish. (either a Clownfish or LongNosed Hawk) Does this sound reasonable or could I do it before this? Whats your "code" to adding fish?

Also, I would like to add a Fire Shrimp into my tank. Should I also wait a few weeks before adding the Fire Shrimp? Could he go in much sooner since he's not a fish?

I test for any spikes in ammonia, trites, and trates and if the levels are good after 7-10 days I go ahead with the new fish. That is my opinion only.
 
three of four weeks should be ample time to see if anything that goes in causes a unbalance in the tank or not. Personally I add fish like my tangs I added 3 of them at the same time after a long while in a QT tank ( are you QT the fish?) I add corals and inverts whenever I want I dont really see them adding much of a bioload on my tank, I tend to add one or two of the same species in the tank at once (after qt). I thnk its personally preff really. I personally dont like seeing my QT tank empty I have a flame hawkfish in there now a day after I put the tanks in my tank. That gives me time to research the next fish I want and ask on AC whether or not it compatible with the rest of my tankmates. I like the cycle I got now and so far has worked with sucess.
 
Okay, a couple weeks... no problem. Can I add a Fire Shrimp in the mean time? Or wait just as long as I would a fish?

Sadly, no. I have 3 tanks in my apartment already and do not have the money or space for another tank. I know the importance of them too. I work at Adventure Aquarium on the weekends. I see thousands of fish in QT tanks. But at this point its not feasible. In the future I will def have one, but for now.... nope. I just stare at the fish in the store for a while and try to pick out the best specimen. So far, I'z been lucky.
