A word of warning on the battery operated air pumps: They will cause your aquarium water to cool down much faster than if you just stir it occasionally. If temperature is a concern, don't break out the airpump.

Depends on the local I have never seen a lake stream pond Ect with a generator so a live time would be my answer.
