i was at work yesterday and there was a small, probably about 2.5-3 inch albino tiger oscar that was missing one gill flap. he was pretty bad looking. so i talked to my boss who said that i could adopt him, but i would be putting him in the 29 for now. how long could he be in there before he started eating the barbs that house the tank

Actually I would not put him in anything less then a 55. They are very messy fish so the water quality will be compromised in no time. They also grow very fast.

thats what i was thinking, and is the reason i didnt adopt him last night. but thought i would throw the question out there. thanks

i am probably not gonna get him, i just hated to see him in the tank with the rest of them and he be missing the gill flap.

If it will improve his current situation then I don't see why not. You just have to ask yourself in which setting he'll be better off...you'd have to be willing to buy a new tank though when the time comes. You'd have alot of time to save up, if you're willing to do it I think you'd be doing him a favor.

problem being that i dont have the room for a 75g tank. i wish i did because i would have gotten that instead of the 55

well i went up to the store tue and he looked pretty bad. and went again tonight and he looked the same. talked to my manager and he let me adopt him. i will post pic of him tomorrow.

You asked how long until he eats the community fish. I would say not very long.
