How long do liquid test kits stay good/cloudy water

I have a fully cycled tank that has been stocked for about 3 weeks. I had a fishless cycle for about 4 weeks. I have had the test kit for about 4 weeks as well.

Yesterday, I noticed that the water was starting to get cloudy. I checked the waters and it registered as 0 ammonio, 0 Nitrites and almost 0 nitrates (it does not appear to be 0 but just a little past). So the water doesn't seem to be the issue based upon the readings. I know that the test kit was giving results as of several weeks ago because I had readings.

I have recently been adding Pimafix and Melafix to the tank in response to some problems I was noticing with my guppies. I don't know if it is necessary because none of the other fish have been having problems but I figured I would treat the tank just in case. I did notice that the problems with the water started at the same time that I started adding the Pimafix and Melafix. Is it possible that this is the source of my cloudy water?

Any other ideas? I don't see algae on anything. I will admit that I may have been overfeeding the fish so I am going to cut back on that and feed them every other day to see if that helps. Is that the problem? I don't necessarily think that this is an issue because I haven't changed my feeding habits for the three weeks and only started having cloudy water as of this week.

ETA: I have had the light hood on for about 14-15 hours a day so I will also admit that there may be too much light. The tank however does not have direct sunlight. Similar to the feeding, I have had my light on for 14-15 hours a day for the entire time that I have had fish and the problems just now started this week.

how long test kits stay good depends upon which kind you have. probably 2-3 years though - check for any kind of date or code on the bottles.

cloudy water could possibly be caused by the addition of pima/melafix. these additives cause a lot of foaming, so you could be having lots of microbubbles causing the cloudiness.

API kit is good for three years after the date printed as the last four digits of the lot number on each bottle, which are mmyy.
