i have two green bristlenose plecos, im guessing 2-3 inches each. im wondering how long i have until i can sex them.
thanks

If they are 3 inches, they should be able to sex. Males are usually easy as they have the bristles and grow faster. Females don't have them and are smaller. I had a pair take 6 months to breed. They were 3.5 inches when I first got them. You'll know when the female starts getting fat and the male starts going in the cave.

maybe theyre 2 inches then or maybe theyre just both females. i hope theyre just too young. im gonna go get a ruler or something to get a better estimate.

Yea usually when they're about the 2 inch mark, they should start showing what sex they are. I also found that males are a darker color compared to females. Not sure if this is true for other bristlenoses but that happened to my calicos and blue eyed ones.

well theres one thats always a black color, and then one that almost looks like a calico that changes color all the time, but is aways light.

Yea I guess you won't really know until they start getting bristles. Good luck on getting a pair. I found that trying to get a female is hard as the breeders tend to sell them expensive compare to the cheaper males. Hopefully they are a pair for you.

well none seem to be males yet and i theyre about 2 inches. if i get both females i guess i could ask mattsfish if he'll trade me a male.

IME it takes FOREVER. I had 2 that I thought were females for almost a full year...then one started getting bristles.

It takes about 8-9 months from hatching to sexual maturity. IME 2" is still a few months away, and not quite sexable yet.
