How long does it take for Chlorine to escape?

As I mentioned in the original post, I don't have chloramine. :) Hence I don't need to worry about adding more chemical to break that down.

I think I may go with the option of bucket + bubbler. How do you guys create bubbles? Do you just use the normal air pump (+ air stone)?

You don't really need bubbles. Just let it sit over night. A good test to do is to take a glass of water and let it sit for an hour. Taste it next to a freshly poured glass. You will be able to taste the chlorine in one and not the other. Once you can't taste it you can't measure it with a strip either.

Is it alright to add a dechlorinator to well water to just deactivate the heavy metals if your not sure if you have them or not?
You can always add dechlorinater. Good insurance policy.

I would also add the dechlor rather than let the water sit in buckets. You never know when the water tap quality may degrade or the purveyor decides to start adding chloramine.

That is no joke. I was talking to the scientist in charge of my water this summer and he wants to start using chloramines! I asked him when this might happen and he said he was over-ruled. It sounded like it could happen anytime. While that is not really a problem for my aquarium because we have such good dechlorinators, it would change my work significantly.

Hmmm didn't think about that.... Sounds like I should stick to the conditioners....

I think using conditioners ultimately save you money. If you don't have inverts, or high concentrations of copper in your pipes, by using conditions and your tap water, you can control the temp goiing into the tank, instead of heating it with a seperate heater. Hot water from the tap is much cheaper than using a heater to keep water warm, overnight. That heater will work really hard to get temps up.

Just use the Prime and never worry if they switch things up on you. A pretty inexpensive insurance policy.
