How long for driftwood/wood?

Gourami Power

Okay I went to my local creek and just to start off I got a small peice of wood that was in the water and I broke it into two. How long should I boil it? How long til it starts to sink? I just started boiling it about 15-20 min. and I want to know when do I know when its done and ready to be put into my tank? And how do you know if the wood you get is safe for your aquarium(if you look for wood by a creek/river) before taking it?

I'm with him, in the boil process. Same questions.

Also, I am keeping some native fish, and there is lots of limestone in the water they came from. Do you think it would be a good idea to put some in the aquarium?

I have a piece that looks just like a cave all ready to go, but I don't want to hurt anything.

did you see this threadhttp://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=80414
it's just a few down from yours.

it's just the latest of these "driftwood won't sink" threads we get a lot. i'd suggest doing a search for "driftwood" on the forums.

also, if it's a "wild" piece of wood, boiling it will not only help it sink (possibly) but also kill any bugs, mold, or bacteria that might be living on it.
