How long for metal halide lamp?

Im launching my biggest offensive yet against the hair algae invasion in my 28 nano cube. I've ordered a tzune 9002 skimmer which I'll fit in the back. Phosphate and trates 0. I physically removed so much and Ive always used RO/DI water...which leaves me with one final problem. Could it be my halide lamp shifted spectrum already? The tank is going to be a year old soon and I ordered a lamp yesterday, but could this be a big factor in my sudden onset of HA a few months ago? I don't want to install it yet if my old lamp is ok.

Its certainly a possiblity...was the light new when you setup the tank a year ago?

Have you tested the nutrient levels of the water that you use for water changes aswell???

I have always heard to replace a MH bulb every 8 months or so. So that could be the issue.

The aquarium/light was new when I purchased it last December. As far as my pre mixing water RO/DI I've had 0 for trites/trates and no phosphorus. The TDS is at an impeccable 0 also...which makes the matter all the more frustrating. I guess unless someone says otherwise I'll change the bulb.
