How long is the brooding time for red empress?

I finally have the female holding for three days.

If she is a mature female than she should hold between 3-4 weeks...if she is still young, she may spit prematurely well before 2 weeks....

Thanks, does anyone know wiht more precision how long is the brooding period? Is it 21 or 28 days?

I need to put her in the maternity ward in the last 2-3 days. It is a bit small for her and the grandfather (that's me) have to do daily water change.

It all depends on the female... its generally between that time but some will spit earlier and some will hold till the last minute.

you could always strip her if you were worried about her spitting early (if she's younger and hasn't held before)

There isn't a set date, each female is different. I have had females hold as long as 30days but some have spit as early as 3 weeks. I usually play it safe and move the female over to the fry tank at 2 weeks.

What size tank are you planning on moving her to?
