What you'll wanna do here is get a 5 gallon bucket if you can, and pour sand in(not to the rim, but maybe to about half the bucket). Either in a sink, or the bathroom tub, place the bucket of sand under a faucet running on high and stir the sand with your hand. The bucket will overflow, do this until the water runs reasonable clear and you should be able to have minimal problems.
I did this with aragonite sand, which is a type of marine substrate, and still had cloudiness for a while because the sand itself was of such a fine grade. With black sand you might not have the same issues though. If it's grainy, then you may not need to rinse as much as I did. Good luck there.~Angela
