How long should it take driftwood to sink?

I took a large piece of driftwood from my tank (since my water is already too soft), bleached it and let it dry for a few days. It completely dried. Then I gave it to my mom, who has it tied down in a bucket of water.

It's been soaking in the bucket of water for about 3 weeks and still floats if released.

About how long should it take to sink again?
 
it all depends. i just soaked mine in hot water over night and it sank the next day.
 
on the other end of the circuit, I have had a piece (a quite large one) soaking in a garbage can (bought specifically for the reason of soaking this piece of wood) for close to a year and it still has not been able to stay down.
 
5hrs vs 3wks... big difference. It must be the kind of wood, and I have no idea what kind mine is. :) Floaty kind apparently.
 
Yeah it really depends on the wood, how dry it was, grain, etc etc. I've had pieces sink after a few weeks, I had one that floated for about 3 years.

O...M...G. :eek: May have been a huge mistake letting it dry.
 
I don't know about that though, kim.... if it was already sunken in your tank, you may be in good shape already...

and you're absolutely right, it does make a difference what kind of wood it is... not sure what kind mine is.

*sigh* I do wish mine would sink already though... wishing it was malasian wood.... that sinks right away... if it wasn't such a good looking hunk of wood, I would totally not be wasting such time on it.
