That is, after its removed from the filter. I have to use som of my filter media to reseed my tank at my parents' house, I'm just going to take some of the lava rock from the filter and put it in a ziploc bag with some tank water. Its about a 15 min drive, how long will the bacteria last if its in water but with no flow to it?

I don't know a definite answer to that question, and don't think there is one.

Just keep the media submerged in the water and you should be fine in such short trip.

If you needed another opionion, I agree with NJ Devil's fan. Just gotta keep it wet, preferrably in tank water.

I don't think it matters for such a short trip, but if it was going to be much longer I don't think I would seal it in a bag, I think oxygen being able to get to it is important too

Alright, I figured it would be fine, just wanted to check. Maybe I will leave it open, but it in a plastic bowl or something instead of a ziploc.
