How many different MTS variations are there?

I have spent the last hour searching the net for a list of the different MTS species, but I can hardly find anything except for a couple of pics that show MTS snail colorations that are a lot different than mine. Does anybody have a link to a web page with this information, or possibly know what the different colorations are?

You link was visible in the e-mail notification that I received, but not in the actual post. Who knows why?

That picture thread is what prompted me to go looking for the different varieties so that I could see which I liked the best and try to get them for a new tank, and essentially what led to this thread.

Thanks for the post.

as i understand it the vast majority are the same species, Melanoides tuberculatus, but they can vary greatly not just in coloration but also in size. The "Giant MTS" like the ones from Florida are still M. tuberculatus, they just grow bigger.

Are you trying to see if your particular snails are MTS?

I know that I have MTS, pond snails, and mystery snails in my 55, and MTS in my 75 because no other snail will survive in there with the loaches. The reason I was asking is because I am thinking about setting up another tank for CRS shrimp and was thinking about populating it with a different color of MTS than I already have. Just wanted to know what my choices were. The current MTS I have aren't colorful in the least bit.

ah in that case, the mts will vary from location to location, if you like some of the ones you see on the boards though, send out some PMs and ask if people are willing to share :) I listed the people who sold me those snails. I'd ship you some myself if you wanted them but I don't know the first thing about shippin critters >.>

I wish I'd have known you were looking Fab, I would have sent you some Quilted Snails (Tarebia granifera) out with your shrimp. They are my favorite of the several varieties of trumpet snails I have. Here's a pic.

Some of these pics aren't exactly "MTS" but they closely resemble them, so I throw them all in the same category. They all have very similar requirements. There are hundreds, probably thousands of trumpet shelled snails out there. But these are the ones I have, so they can't be that hard to get.

Fawn Melania (Melanoides turricula) These are the ones being called Giant MTS from Florida. They ARE different from regular Red-Rimmed Melania.

Glad to see you on this board. I have been having a great time on this board the past month or two. Great people and a lot of great information. Thanks for the shrimp. I was actually able to see 3 decent sized ones this evening while I was doing some work on the tank. I was actually surprised to see that many because the tank is literally a jungle. They still haven't gotten their color yet, but after what they went through last week, I wouldn't blame them. I'd be scared translucent for the rest of my life if that happened to me. With that said, I did see one 2 days ago that had its color, and it was beautiful.
