How many fish in different tank sizes?

hmmm, i think that sounds like a good idea. I really like pristellas, i think that they are soo kool looking. I think like 12 neon tetras, 12 xray, 6-12 mickey mouse platies, and then zip the betta of doom and king of the tank.

So yeah, next question is, how do i ensure that everyone eats what they are supposed to. I want tomake sure zip eats his betta food.

I am planning on getting an aut feeder too for my short trips away, and equal feeding may become a problem then.

If they are eating, don't worry. It shouldn't matter what they eat.

As for auto feeders, they are a waste of money. More often than not they malfunction somehow or just plain feed too much, which is a big problem if you are not around to change the water. If you trust someone (preferably someone with fish) you can always place food into zip-loc baggies and label them with the dates that you will be gone. Otherwise, you shouldn't have to feed at all when gone depending on the length of the trip. My tank has gone around 2-3 weeks without food. No losses so far.

6-12 mickey mouse platys on top of all the other tetras and Zip sounds like too much to me. Plus, with that many platys, your tetras and Zip may have a hard time keeping the fry down. 3-4 platys would be better, but I definitely wouldn't do more than 6.

I'd agree with Rich on this. 24 Neons, 3-4 (same gender) Platies, and a group of Cories or shrimp would make for a very nice tank.

ok, only a few platies then :)
My trips will be from 2 days (weekends), 2 weeks, or a month max. I have made the commiment to doing this and i am willing to shorten vacations. One of the reasons why fish are appealing is the ease of taking care of them. They keep to themselves although i prefer to look at them as much as possible, hence why my tank right now is on my desk infront of me and the ease of feeding them. I would prefer to not have people in my apt while i am away but in some instances i could easily find someone i trust enough to feed em.

The autofeeders i looked at had individual pockets so you can add each days food in the correct amounts. Some with a backup powersupply, which in most cases would be a good idea. I am not looking to use the autofeeder as a way to get out of feeding my fish, its sole purpose would be to take care of them while i am away. What would be the point of getting fish if you arent even willing to feed them.

The problem is that feeding-->waste-->ammonia-->nitrite-->nitrate

and if you are not around to change the water nitrates can build quickly in a fully stocked tank. It's best to feed very heavily and do a water change right before leaving. If you are going to be gone for over two weeks I wouldn't be feeding everyday. That is too much without water changes in between. And again, I do not trust auto feeders...As I said earlier, the fish should be fine without food for 2-3 weeks.
